Electrical Substation Ground Mats

Challenge

P&R Metals makes a variety of electrical ground mats for the electrical transmission industry.  When working with grounded live electrical equipment, line workers and electricians run the risk of electrocution.  Typically, this situation can happen when electrical current flows directly through the body while the worker is standing on the ground.

If a worker becomes involved with electrical equipment that becomes energized, the worker risks an electrical current that can flow down from that equipment and thru that workers body, causing injury or possibly fatal.

Solution

P&R Metals works with power company engineers to manufacture ground mats for the electrical substation industry. Ground mats can reduce the risk of electrical shock.  Ground mats provide step and touch protection for workers in these environments if properly installed.

Ground mats can protect workers in the situations where they become involved with electrical equipment that becomes energized and risks having an electric current flowing through their body.  With a ground mat properly installed and grounded, the worker is protected because the electrical current would flow through the mat and not the worker.

Versatile to your Requirement

Custom Built: P&R Metal's electrical substation ground mats can be custom built to your specifications and up to 6’ x 12’ in size.

Multiple metal products can be used to build these versus the “This is our only option” competitor.

Focus on Durability

Hot Dipped Galvanized and Made of Carbon Steel: P&R Metals specializes in heavy duty carbon steel galvanized grating, compared to cheaper other mats offered in the industry such as thin wire mesh that tends to be filmsy and tear up with gravel thrown around them.

Long Service Life Span: Our electrical substation ground mats are meant for a long service life span versus small wire mesh mats, which need periodic replacement over time. We aim to manufacture ground mats that can withstand 10 years without issue.

Elevated Ground Mats for Snow Environments

P&R Metals also developed with power company engineers smaller ground mats and work platforms for new electrical substations. Some of these work platforms required an elevated design due to winter locations.

These elevated ground mats have Grip Strut for the platform due to the snow environment where these are installed. The elevated design gives the substation employee the ability to be on an elevated above the snow line platform, as well as a grounded mat.
